Wall Vents For Portable Air Conditioning Units

The anticipation of summer brings a lot of anxiety to those who are not prepared for the sultry heat it brings with it. And if you’re in this category, then it’s time that you get your butt in gear, and start moving! Of course, you could always carry ice and a cold bucket of water with you. Or you could buy a fan. But there’s a much better option. How about a portable air conditioner? If you have wall vents, then you have an even greater possibility. That’s because there are wall vents for portable air conditioning units out there. Let’s take a look at how they work.

These vents are, as you would expect, on your wall. Check to see if you have vents in the rooms in your home. If you do, then simply buy a portable air conditioner unit whose dimensions meet your wall vents. Installing wall vents for portable air conditioning units is not as difficult as you may think. Here’s how to do it.

#1
Jot down a list of all the materials you will need to make your wall vent suitable for your air conditioning unit. Do you need a bypass duct? What about a supply duct? To determine this, see if the room you intend to do your installation has one or two vents. If the latter, and if one sucks air and the other blows air, you’ll need a supply duct. If not, then get a bypass duct. In total, you will need duct tape, straps, boot clips, sealer, and flex collars. All of these can be bought from your local home improvement store.

#2
The boot for the air conditioning unit should be above the hot room and put in the attic.

#3
Now you can make an incision in the room through the ceiling. In order to see the location of the trusses,  you will be cutting from the attic.

#4
Use  a helper for attachment of the grill while holding the boot. By doing this, you ensure you can secure your boot. You can now also begin screwing the boots.

#5
Take out your flex and stretch it through the vent. Hole drilling is also necessary in order to install your collar.

#6
Now you’re ready for hooking the flex. For the collar, the inner liner should  be pushed over it, and secured by duct tape. Next, you need to tighten and seal the strap across the outer layer. Finish it off by taking your flex, and cutting it. Then you can begin hooking the ends of your flex.

That’s a brief synopsis for installing wall vents for portable air conditioning units. If you’d rather not take the time to install yourself, then consider hiring an expert to perform the installation.

For those who lack a wall vent in the room they wish to have an air conditioning unit, then unless you know how to make a wall vent, I’d recommend using the services of those skilled in making them for you.
